13 October 2022 - The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne, represented by Consul General Maria Lourdes M. Salcedo and Consul Jan Sherwin P. Wenceslao, supported Filipino-Australian artisan furniture company En Gold during its Filipino Community launch event of the Hiraya Foundation on 13 October 2022.
En Gold is a Melbourne-based furniture and home furnishings manufacturing company specializing in natural stone and marble furniture by Filipino-Australian interior designer Stefanie Ball in 2020. Serving a worldwide market, the company views itself as a purveyor in promoting and celebrating Filipino craft to a global audience by showcasing traditional craftsmanship in a contemporary light for the modern home.
It sources its natural marble and stone branded as “fossil stone” from sustainable quarries in Cebu (hand-harvested), and employs Filipino artisans engaged in the art of traditional Filipino stone inlay, led by master Cebuano craftsmen Jerry and Wisdom Ceniza.
As part of its sustainable business model, En Gold has established the “Hiraya Foundation” a non-profit organization that focuses on promoting the bayanihan spirit by providing schools with reading materials and resources, barangays with clean drinking water and sanitary services, and workers with life insurance and health care support for families in Liloan and Carmen, Cebu, that directly contribute to creating Filipino artisan wares for En Gold. During the launch event, Ms. Ball released “Heritage”, a coffee table book that documents the story of the En Gold craft, with 100% of profits to be donated to the Hiraya Foundation.
