Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne supports Barangay Buwan ng Wika Event in a night filled with Filipino Culture, Food and Fashion
The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne, represented by Consul Jan Sherwin P. Wenceslao and Cultural Officer Maria Cristina Malvas, supported Barangay, a Melbourne-based pop-up restaurant in Melbourne with their event for the Buwan ng Wika entitled, “A night that is filled with Filipino Culture, Food and Fashion” at the the Motley Bauhaus in Melbourne Victoria on 10 September 2022.

The head chef of Barangay Chef Fhred Erick Batalona organized a pop up event, featuring Filipino music, food, dance and fashion. The meal featured a Filipino seven-course degustation starting from adobo bites, salted duck egg puto, pancit wrap, tortang talong tart, kaldereta sliders, mango float serbet and biko/ube halaya.
They also served Filipino drinks called Samalamig and Filipino Cocktail selections that featured memories of the islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao!
There were also Filipino performances by Dee Ariana, Junelzki and Jancent Milante. The guests also enjoyed the Filipino Formal Wear Fashion Show by Lilian Bermudez.
Barangay pop-up restaurant is entirely inspired by the Filipino Culture in terms of cuisine, beverages, atmosphere, and experience. “Barangay” meaning Village, is not only a Filipino Pop-Up restaurant, but also an experience to engross oneself into Filipino Culture and further recreate Filipino Cuisine. According to Chef Batalona, “Barangay aims to increase Filipino Cuisine’s popularity and influence amongst other Asian Cuisines present in Melbourne, Australia by doing Pop-up events and catering.
