Celebrating Philippine Independence through Cuisine: A 'Taste of Pinoy Flavours' in Melbourne

04 June 2023 - The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne, in collaboration with Stamford Plaza Melbourne, hosted a cozy, community-centered Filipino Food Festival titled A Taste of Pinoy Flavours on Sunday, 4th June 2023. The event, which is meant to herald the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence, highlighted the rich and diverse flavors of Filipino cuisine.

The festival was attended by almost a hundred guests from both the local and Filipino communities, including invited guests Mr. Kuncoro Giri Waseso, Consul General of Indonesia, Mr. Nik Muhammad Nasyron Syah bin Nik Daud, Consul General of Malaysia, and Mr. Andrew Mendelawitz, Consul of Guatemala and Secretary of the Consular Corps.

A highlight of the event was the variety of delicious traditional Filipino dishes prepared by Filipino-New Zealand Chef de Partie of Stamford Hotel, Mr. Giovanni Macabenta. The menu ranged from savory favorites like sinigang na isda, chicken adobo, lechon kawali, and beef kare kare, to sweet delicacies like leche flan and buko pandan. Additionally, guests were treated to Filipino beverages, featuring Calamansi Crush Cider by Three Filipinas, and the iconic San Miguel Beer.

The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne looks forward to further activities celebrating the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence this June, aiming to celebrate the richness of Filipino culture and community through a series of harmonized events.
