The Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne, represented by Consul Jan Sherwin P. (FAABI), held on 26 February 2022 at the Ballarat & District Trotting Club in the State of Victoria, Australia. The reception was attended by the Filipino community in Ballarat, representatives from various Filipino organisations in Victoria, Cr. Daniel Moloney, Mayor of Ballarat; Ms. Juliana Addison, State MP, Wendouree; and Ms. Lizzy Kouth, Representative of the Victorian Multicultural Commission.
The FAABI is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to assist new Filipino migrants, to promote a spirit of understanding and unity among Filipinos and to the Australian community as a whole, to preserve culture and tradition through bonding, bridging, and linking community members to the community itself.
In his remarks, Consul Wenceslao congratulated the officers of FAABI, led by its President, Ms. Gersen Wardlow-Moreno, for their work in “keeping (our) Filipino roots, culture, values and traditions, the “Bayanihan spirit”, alive in the hearts and minds of our compatriots here in Victoria”. He also took the opportunity to highlight to the Filipino community the services offered by the recently opened Consulate General in Melbourne, to avail of passports, visas, notarizations, civil registry, dual citizenship applications, and Assistance to Nationals, as part of the Philippine government’s commitment to provide high-quality support and welfare services to Overseas Filipinos in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
